Industrial standards and government sites

The U.S. government offers many helpful sites concerning testing, pollution control, safety in the workplace, statistics about various national markets and much more. Midwest Metal Fabrication offers the following links in the hopes they are beneficial to our OEM and other customers.

American National Standards Institute (ANSI)
ANSI is a private, non-profit organization that administers and coordinates the U.S. voluntary standardization and conformity assessment system. The site includes electronic copies of ANSI standards and a good links section to national and international standards organizations.

American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM)
ASTM is a not-for-profit organization that provides a forum for the development and publication of voluntary consensus standards for materials, products, systems and services. ASTM develops standard test methods, specifications, practices, guides, classifications, and terminology covering subjects such as metals, paints, plastics, textiles, petroleum, construction, energy, the environment, consumer products, medical services and devices, computerized systems, electronics, and many others. The site contains a consultants’ directory, the ANSI store, and information on quality assurance and training programs.

Census Bureau
This site is full of a wide variety of statistical information about the U.S. including individuals, households, business sectors, NAICS codes, and publications. It also includes a helpful Fact Finder tool that provides a quick search index for the most commonly searched information.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
The EPA's mission is to protect human health and to safeguard the natural environment — air, water, and land. The EPA has program offices, 10 regional offices, and 17 labs across the country. Site includes a tremendous amount of environmental information.

FirstGov
This site is a gateway for government Web site questions. The site has listings and links for government branches with an A-Z Index, links for Federal Branches, State, Local & Tribal, plus International.

International Organization for Standardization (ISO)
The source of ISO 9000 and more than 13,000 International Standards for business, government and society. This is an extensive site.

National institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
NIST’s goals are to ensure recognition and use of U.S. standards domestically and in the global marketplace; promote worldwide acceptance of U.S. test and calibration data to facilitate the marketing of U.S. products; and provide assistance to industry, trade associations, and exporters through its operations, training and information programs. Founded in 1901, NIST is a non-regulatory federal agency within the U.S. Commerce Department's Technology Administration. NIST's mission is to develop and promote measurement, standards, and technology to enhance productivity, facilitate trade, and improve the quality of life.

Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
OSHA’s mission is to save lives, prevent injuries and protect the health of America's workers. OSHA’s staff inspectors establish protective standards, enforce those standards, and reach out to employers and employees through technical assistance and consultation programs. Site includes a comprehensive list of laws and regulations plus section to assist in compliance.
