Dip tank painting

Dip tank painting - photo

Dip tank painting services at Midwest Metal Fabrication.

Dip tank painting involves a tank filled with the paint to be applied into which components, suspended from hooks on an overhead conveyor, are briefly submerged.

Submerging the workpiece into the dip tank filled with the specified paint results in the part being entirely coated with a layer of the paint. Parts are then left on the conveyor hooks to air dry. Air temperature and humidity are controlled.

Dip tank painting overview

Midwest Metal Fabrication ’s customers often required that their parts be thoroughly painted. To accomplish this we submerge the parts in a dip tank. Smaller parts are placed on hook line conveyor for dipping, larger parts are lowered into the dip tank with a crane or forklift. Parts can then be oven dried or air dried dependent on the finish cure specified.

Available coatings

Midwest Metal Fabrication’s paints and coatings available to our customers are all water based. They include:

  • Weldable primer
  • Rust prohibitive primer
  • Finish coat

Dip tank size

Midwest Metal Fabrication’s dip tanks are 14” wide x 12’ long x 24” high.

Maximum workpiece size

Midwest Metal Fabrication can dip a component up to 13” wide x 10’ long x 18” high. The dip tank overhead component conveyor can handle parts that weigh up to 100lbs. each.

Other complementary services

In addition to our curing ovens, Midwest Metal Fabricators also operates a large curing building where large parts or fabrications can be air-dried in a controlled environment. The building size is 5,000 sq. ft. Our personnel typically air dry parts or fabrications from 12 to 24 hours to ensure a proper coating cure has occurred. We maintain curing room temperatures in a range from 60 to 75 degrees, which we control via a thermostat.

We can perform assembly functions using either mechanical fasteners (nuts and bolts), rivets, or by welding.
