Oxy-fuel cutting services
Oxy-fuel cutting is a metal cutting process that utilizes rapid oxidation of the metal by a jet of pressurized oxygen. Oxy-fuel cutting is most commonly used in the manufacturing of heavy equipment and used in construction of structural members for buildings, and also in repair work. It is used to cut ferrous metals by rapid oxidation of a narrow, heated, zone. In industrial applications, oxy-fuel cutting is the predominant flame process for cutting of mild and low-alloy steels. Oxy-fuel cutting overviewMidwest Metal Fabrication uses oxy-fuel cutting for shapes or components that are later formed or machined. We utilize part nesting programs to optimize cutting time and material usage. We can flame cut 3 identical parts simultaneously from same sheet of material since our oxy-fuel cutting machine has 3 cutting heads. Oxy-fuel cutting is often the first step in the fabrication process. Bed sizeMidwest Metal Fabrication has a bed size of 40’ x 18’ for our oxy-fuel cutting. MaterialsWe can cut mild steel and high strength steel. We preheat certain high strength metals such as T-1 steel prior to using our oxy-fuel cutting process. Gauge/thicknessMidwest Metal Fabrication can oxy-fuel cut steel sheet or plate up to 8” thick. Minimum/maximum workpiece sizeWe can oxy-fuel cut parts and components as large as our cutting bed that is 40’ long x 18’ wide. In reality, there is no minimum or maximum cutting size unless the part or component exceeds our bed size. LengthThe length of our oxy-fuel cutting table is 40’. WidthThe width of our oxy-fuel cutting table is 18’. SpeedMidwest Metal Fabrication maximum cutting speed is 249 inches / minute using plasma and 35 inches per minute using gas. Sheet weightMidwest Metal Fabrication can oxy-fuel cut a single sheet of steel weighing up to 2 tons! Dimensional toleranceMidwest Metal Fabrication can oxy-fuel cut parts or components with a dimensional tolerance requirement of +/-1/8 of an inch. Gases Or Gas Mixtures UsedMidwest Metal Fabrication uses both plasma and a combination of oxygen and natural gas in our oxy-fuel cutters. LimitationsMidwest Metal Fabrication can oxy-fuel cut steel sheet or steel plate with a maximum thickness of 8”. Midwest Metal Fabrication does not cut galvanized steel or other precoated metals with its gas or plasma cutters.
