Brake forming / press braking - photo

Brake forming / press braking at Midwest Metal Fabrication.

Press braking is a metal forming process that uses an open-frame single-action press used to bend, blank, corrugate, curl, notch, perforate, pierce, or punch sheet metal or plate using a U-shaped, V-shaped, or channel-shape punch or die set.

Press braking overview

Midwest Metal Fabrication offers heavy-duty press braking services to customers requiring these heavy-gauge metal-fabricating services. We operate many press brakes to assist our OEM customers to produce brake formed metal shapes they need to meet their custom fabricated metal parts requirements. We can press brake a variety of shapes including angles, “U” shapes, hat shapes, multiple bend shapes, “C” shapes, and off sets.

Tonnage

Midwest Metal Fabrication operates computer controlled and manually controlled press brakes which have tonnage capacities ranging from 100 tons up to 1,000 tons, needed for heavy-gauge braking.

Gauge

Our press brakes are capable of forming metals from 20-gauge up to .75” thick. We utilize our 1,000-ton capacity press to form the 1” thick material.

Size

We are capable of press braking parts up to a 23’length.

Bed size [width and length]

Midwest Metal Fabrication’s press brakes have a bed size of up to 23’ long x 10.5” wide.

Shut height

We offer a shut height of up to 24”.

Materials

We press brake a variety of metals as required by our customers needing heavy-gauge brake forming. Materials that we routinely press brake include:

  • Aluminum (All Alloys)
  • Aluminum (T1/T2)
  • Cold Rolled Steel
  • Galvanized Steel
  • High Strength, Low Alloy, Steel
  • Hot Rolled Steel
  • Steel (All Alloys)

We also can brake form copper, brass, galvannealed, and stainless steel.

Run size/volume

Midwest Metal Fabrication can offer run sizes of any volume required by our customers.
Our typical run sizes range from 25 to 200 pieces. However, we also run thousands of pieces at a time for many of our customers.

Hydraulic press capacities

Midwest Metal Fabrication offers hydraulic press capabilities up to 250 ton with a bed size of up to 26” x 47” x 32” height.
