Band sawing

Band sawing - photo

Band sawing at Midwest Metal Fabrication.

Band sawing is a multipoint cutting process during which a workpiece is advanced into a moving continuous band that has cutting teeth along one edge. Using band sawing, parts may be severed from a workpiece. Band sawing can also produce irregular or curved saw cuts. The band sawing process produces a narrow cut/kerf and fine feed marks and a uniform cutting action.

Band sawing overview

Midwest Metal Fabrication uses a combination of computerized and manual horizontal band saws to provide band saw cutting services to our OEM and custom component customers.

Saw types

Midwest Metal Fabrication uses vertical band saws for cutting flat workpieces such as flat sheet or plate.

We normally use horizontal band saws for cutting rectangular or round workpieces as well as for cutting bundles of square or round materials prior to processing.

Workpiece size by type

Midwest Metal Fabrication can band saw steel sheet or plate, rectangular or round tube, and rectangular, flat, or round bar stock.

Midwest Metal Fabrication can band saw work pieces that include:

  • Flat sheet or plate with a maximum width of 12”, length of 20’’, and a thickness of 12”.
  • Rectangular or round tube can be stack cut with a height of 12”, width of 12”, and length of 20’.
  • Rectangular or round bar with a maximum length of 20’, and/or thickness of 12”.

Types of cuts provided

Midwest Metal Fabrication uses our vertical band saws to make irregular cuts out of a flat piece of material and also to make straight cuts across the length or width of the material.

We use our horizontal band saws make straight or angle miter cuts across the face of a tube or bar and also to make straight cuts across bundles of tubes or bars to prepare them for further processing.

Materials

Midwest Metal Fabrication uses our computerized or horizontal band saws to cut mild steels, high strength steels, stainless steel, and alloy steel.

Thickness

Our horizontal band saws make straight or angle miter cuts in materials that are up to 12” thick.

Minimum/maximum workpiece size

Midwest Metal Fabrication can precision cut solid or tubular metal work pieces with maximum dimensions of 20’ long x 12” wide x 12” high.

Length

Midwest Metal Fabrication horizontal band saws can precision cut solid or tubular metal workpieces with lengths up to 20’.

Complementary services

Midwest Metal Fabrication offers welding, painting, bending, and assembly services in conjunction with our band sawing services.
