The links, which follow, are designed to assist OEM manufacturers and purchasing agents and other buyers find helpful information about a variety of metal fabricating associations, various industry and trade associations, and related engineering associations which can be beneficial to their metal products operations. Industry trade associations and professional organizations

Aluminum Association, Inc.
A trade association for U.S. producers of primary aluminum, recyclers, and semi-fabricated aluminum products. This site also offers publications, aluminum statistics, and audiovisuals.

American Electroplaters & Surface Finishers Society (AESF)
The AESF is an international society that advances the science of surface finishing to benefit industry and society.

American Galvanizers Association (AGA)
The AGA association members represent the after-fabrication hot-dip galvanizing industry throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI)
The AISI promotes steel as the material of choice and works to enhance the competitiveness of the North American steel industry and its member Companies. Member companies include integrated, electric furnace, and reconstituted mills. Associate members include suppliers to, or customers of, the industry. Affiliate member organizations include downstream steel producers of products such as cold rolled strip, pipe and tube, and coated sheet.

American Machine Tool Distributors' Association (AMTDA)
The AMTDA is a trade association dedicated to advancing the marketing of machine tools in the United States through distribution.

American Mold Builders Association (AMBA)
American Mold Builders Association has been the leading industry trade organization serving U.S. mold builders. Member companies serve OEMs in many industries including automotive, medical, electronics/electrical, toys, recreation and sporting goods, building and construction, lawn and garden, consumer, and industrial. Site contains publications and resources, plus industry links.

American Society for Materials International (ASM)
Society of materials engineers and scientists dedicated to advancing industry, technology, and applications of metals and materials. Site offers ASME, AWS, ISO, NACE, and ASTM standards. Contains links to its magazines Advanced Materials & Processes and Heat Treating Progress and a searchable directory to over 1300 manufacturers and service providers in the metals & materials industry.

American Society for Quality (ASQ)
Geared to provide information on quality issues for manufacturing. Has sections on ISO certification, U.S. quality standards, six sigma discussions, quality periodicals, quality links, and a glossary on quality word and terms.

American Welding Society (AWS)
The AWS membership includes providers of products and services to members and the welding industry. The site lists safety and health information, trade shows, industry links, and much more.

Association for Forming & Fabricating Technologies of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers
This association focuses on the technologies and processes that efficiently make products from metal sheet, coil, plate, tube, or pipe stock. Typical industries served are automotive, off-highway vehicles, aerospace vehicles, defense, consumer and industrial appliance, furniture, and consumer electronics products. Site includes areas with technology trends and other resources.

Association for Manufacturing Excellence (AME)
An organization dedicated to manufacturing excellence. Site contains lots of educational information.

Association for Manufacturing Technology (AMT)
Industry group that promotes the interests of machine tool manufacturers. The site is quite extensive containing industry trends and statistics, standards and regulations, publications, and Web resources.

Association of Steel Distributors (ASD)
The Association of Steel Distributors (ASD) is a non-profit organization, providing the steel distribution industry a forum for ideas exchange and market information. Members have access to the most current industry developments and legislative issues. Regional and national meetings give members numerous opportunities to learn and network in this competitive environment.

Association for Manufacturing Technology (AMT)
AMT represents and promotes the interests of American providers of manufacturing machinery and equipment actively supports and promotes American manufacturers of machine tools and manufacturing technology. This helpful site contains current industry specific articles, a directory, discussions of issues, and association links. Site contains specific information for Forming & Fabricating Group and the Laser Systems Product Group.

Association of Machinery and Equipment Appraisers (AMEA)
Members are individual machinery and equipment appraisal professionals.

Coatings Societies International (CSI)
CSI is composed of the world’s coatings technical associations. Members include representative organizations from Great Britain (OCCA), Europe (FATIPEC), Japan (JSCM), Scandinavia (SLF), Australia (SCAA) and New Zealand (SCANZ).

Electrocoat Association
Founded in 1997, the Electrocoat Association is a non-profit trade association that brings together end-users and suppliers involved in the electrocoating industry to promote the use of e-coat throughout manufacturing industries. Members include custom coating suppliers of applicators, suppliers of equipment, chemicals, paint and, ancillary equipment and finishing applications. Site includes a buyer’s guide, links, and other resources.

Extrusion Technology for Aluminum Profiles Foundation
The purpose of the ET Foundation is to develop, promote, provide, and fund education and research related to aluminum extrusion processes and technology, while developing and promoting interest in, and awareness of, the field of aluminum extrusion.

Fabricators and Manufacturers Association International (FMA)
This association keeps members current concerning metal forming and fabricating trends and technologies. FMA serves members involved in the following processes: bending, blanking, cutting, drawing, extruding, fastening, finishing, leveling, piercing, punching, roll forming, shearing, slitting, spinning, straightening, stamping, swaging, and welding. The site provides on-line quoting opportunities.

Industrial Supply Association (IDA)
The IDA is the leading association of the maintenance, repair, operations and production (MROP) supply chain. Standard products carried by I.D.A. members include abrasives, cutting tools, valves, pumps, safety and maintenance supplies. These products are commonly referred to as MRO items (maintenance, repair and operations). The site contains white papers, statistics, periodicals, and helpful links.

International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI)
The IISI is a non-profit research organization providing a world forum concerning aspects of the international steel industry. Members include nearly all of the world’s major steel producers. It is headquartered in Brussels, Belgium.

International Training Institute (ITI)
This association provides training opportunities to union members in the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning industry.

Japan Metal Stamping Association (JMSA)
This site is geared to assisting small-to-medium size metal stamping enterprises in Japan. The association promotes modernization of facilities, development of new products and technology, and optimization of management scale and production methods, and thus has achieved enormous results. The Web site is limited.

Machine Tool Technologies Association (MTTA)
Part of the MTA, the Manufacturing Technologies Association, it is the national organization representing companies who manufacture or import products in the machine tool, equipment and manufacturing technologies sector.

Machinery Dealers National Association (MDNA)
MDNA members buy and sell used capital equipment. Established in 1941 to assure buyers of the integrity and reliability of used machinery dealers that are members of the association, the association represents nearly 500 member companies around the world.

Materials Research Society (MRS)
Founded in 1973, the Materials Research Society is a not-for-profit organization which brings together scientists, engineers and research managers from industry, government, academia and research laboratories to share findings in the research and development of new materials of technological importance. This is a good site, including information on materials publications and journals.

Metal Finishing Suppliers Association (MFSA)
MFSA is a network of suppliers dedicated to the advancement of the metal finishing industry. The association offers its members a host of member benefits including networking, industry promotion, survey and research information, and the opportunity to be an active player in industry concerns through committees and government relations. Site contains a supplier’s directory and a resources section containing periodicals and research information.

The Metal Stamping Network
The Metal Stamping Network provides access to an extensive network of online business service providers within the Metal Stamping Industry.

Metal Treating Institute (MTI)
Metal Treating Institute is the only international trade association representing the corporate heat-treating industry. Members include commercial heat treaters, captive heat treaters, and suppliers. Site contains a link to the in-house periodical Open Hearth Newsletter plus industry standards, industry links, and a database to locate a heat treater.

National Association of Manufacturers (NAM)
A large association dedicated to representing all manufacturers' interests and views on both national and international issues to the U.S. government. Site contains a tremendous amount of updated U.S. manufacturing and trade data information.

National Association of Metal Finishers (NAMF)
NAMF is the industry association representing hundreds of independent member surface finishing firms.

National Center for Excellence in Metalworking Technology (NCEMT)
The National Center for Excellence in Metalworking Technology (NCEMT) was established in 1988 as one of the Centers of Excellence sponsored by the United States Navy Manufacturing Technology (ManTech) Program. NCEMT is one of the nation's premier resources for developing and disseminating affordable, advanced metalworking technologies. Publications and videos on metalworking technologies are available though the site.

National Center for Manufacturing Sciences (NCMS)
NCMS builds cross-industry partnerships to leverage assets, minimize risk and expand resources, allowing timely introduction of new technology in the manufacturing sector.

National Coalition for Advanced Manufacturing (NACFAM)
NACFAM is an industry-led, non-profit education, research and services organization committed to enhancing the productivity and competitiveness of U.S.-based manufacturing. The site is primarily for member use but does contain links to advanced manufacturing publications.

National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS)
NIMS is a nonprofit organization formed by metalworking trade associations, national labor organizations, a council of state governors, companies, and educators to support the development of a skilled workforce for the metalworking industry.

National Tooling & Machining Association (NTMA)
The NTMA is the national representative of the custom precision manufacturing industry in the United States. NTMA members design and manufacture special tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, gages, special machines, and precision machined parts. Some member firms specialize in experimental research and development work. The site contains a library and links to reports and periodicals.

Powder Coating Institute (PCI)
PCI represents the North American powder coating industry, promotes powder coating technology and communicates the benefits of powder coating to manufacturers, consumers, and government.

Process Equipment Manufacturers Association (PEMA)
A top management association serving companies in the process equipment field since 1960. Member companies serve the liquids-solids separation, food processing, chemical processing, pulp and paper, wastewater treatment, among others. Site contains a Products/Solutions sections, industry links, trade show information, and an industry statistics sections.

Precision Machined Products Association (PMPA)
PMPA is part of the Precision Metalforming Association since its formation in 1933, the Precision Machined Products Association (formerly NSMPA) has been the sole provider of Industry-specific information. The site includes an industry overview section and a comprehensive resources center.

Precision Metalforming Association (PMA)
The association for most metal forming companies. PMA members include metal stampers, roll formers, metal fabricators, metal spinners, and slide formers. The PMA Web site is also home to the Custom Roll Forming Institute. Site includes many links and resources pertinent to metal forming operations.

Specialty Steel Industry of North America (SSINA)
SSINA is a trade association representing virtually all the producers of specialty steel in North America including bar, rod, wire, angles, plate, sheet and strip, in stainless steel and other specialty steels.

Steel Manufacturers Association (SMA)
Members are primarily steel producers such as mini-mills. It is the primary trade association for scrap-based EAF steel makers.

Steel Plate Fabricators Association (SPFA)
The SPFA’s membership is composed of manufacturers of ferrous and non-ferrous custom designed and fabricated steel and alloyed plat for steel mills, railroads, utilities, and petroleum, chemical, water and related industries

Steel Recycling Institute (SRI)
The Steel Recycling Institute promotes and sustains the recycling of all steel products.

Steel Service Center Institute (SSCI)
Members include domestic and international wholesalers of industrial steel products who take products from metal producers and provide new products in various sizes and grades.

Tooling & Manufacturing Association (TMA)
Chicago-area association represents area companies that provide manufacturers worldwide with tools & dies, molds, jigs & fixtures, special machinery, automation equipment, precision machining, turned parts, metal stampings and fabricated metal parts, plastic molded parts, die cast parts, subassemblies, plating, engraving and heat treating services. The TMA membership also features suppliers of industrial machinery & equipment, software, systems, materials and services. Site contains many training programs and offers continuing education courses.

Industrial gases associations

British Compressed Gases Association (BCGA)
BCGA promoes safe practice in the manufacture, distribution, storage and use of compressed and liquefied gases. The site is primarily geared to members.

Compressed Gas Association (CGA)
Compressed Gas Association has been dedicated to the development and promotion of safety standards and safe practices in the industrial gas industry. Lots of available videos and publications.

European Industrial Gases Association (EIGA)
www.eiga.org/ is a safety and technically oriented organization representing the vast majority of European and a number of non-European companies producing and distributing industrial, medical and food gases. Site contains much information about industrial gases and uses.

Japan Industrial Gases Association (JIGA)
A new organization established to integrate various industrial gas associations, including the Oxygen Association, the Dissolved Acetylene Association, the Carbon Dioxide Association, the Specialty Gas Association, the Helium Association, and the Hydrogen Association that have represented the industrial gas industry, up to now. The site is focused on Japanese industrial gas uses but contains statistics and many publications.

Professional engineering associations

Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST)
Formed in January 2004 from the merger of the Iron & Steel Society and the Association of Iron and Steel Engineers. This new organization has the goal of advancing the technical development, production, processing and application of iron and steel. This site has a great “Links” section for both users of steel and producers of various steel types.

Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE)
IIE is the world’s largest professional society dedicated solely to the support of the industrial engineering profession and individuals involved with improving quality and productivity. Founded in 1948, IIE is an international, non-profit association that provides leadership for the application, education, training, research, and development of industrial engineering. The site contains a wide variety of useful information for industrial engineers.

National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE)
The National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) is the recognized voice and advocate of licensed Professional Engineers. Founded in 1934, NSPE strengthens the engineering profession by promoting engineering licensure and ethics, enhancing the engineer image, advocating and protecting PEs' legal rights at the national and state levels, publishing news of the profession, providing continuing education opportunities, and more. The site is quite comprehensive.

Society of American Military Engineers (SAME)
SAME is a nonprofit professional engineer association headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia.

Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME)
The Society of American Military Engineers is the only nonprofit professional engineering education organization that actively promotes the advancement of both individual technical knowledge and the collective engineering capabilities of governments, the uniformed services and private industry. Site provides resources for training and other activities.

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
ASME is a professional organization focused on technical, educational and research issues of the engineering and technology community. ASME conducts one of the world's largest technical publishing operations, holds numerous technical conferences worldwide, and offers hundreds of professional development courses each year. ASME sets internationally recognized industrial and manufacturing codes and standards that enhance public safety. Site contains standards and codes information.
